Chair: Debbie Winter
Vice Chair: Robyn Morrison
Secretary: Sarah Sorenson
Treasurer: Cheryl Kannegieter
DPAC Rep: Sharon Proulx
The PAC meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm in the CMS Library. Come and find out what is going on in your child's school and to have some input, help to enhance your child's educational experience and to meet and socialize with other parents and staff.
Every parent or guardian of a child registered in a school has a right, under the School Act, to belong to the PAC. The PAC has an elected executive and numerous committees, who report to the rest of the parents. Chilliwack Middle School Parent Advisory Council is NOT a forum for the discussion of personnel, students, parents or other individual members of the school community.
The purpose is to advise the principal and staff on parent views on any matter relating to the school-programs, policies or other matters, to direct parents towards resources available for concerns and/or complaints. In other words, the true role of our PAC is that of an advisor to the school and a vehicle for ensuring effective two-way communication between the school and the parent community.
This PAC does not do fundraising. All funds distributed by this PAC currently come from Provincial Gaming Funds.
The PAC is for parent's support, for communication between the teachers, parents and the students. It has been shown that students that parents that are involved in their child's education achieve higher grades and have better homework and study skills. The principal, liaison, students and community members may be invited to attend meetings.
The PAC enabled under the School Act, provides a venue for parents to advise the school on any matter. Parents that get involved find out what is happening in their school and are able to provide input to ensure that the school meets the needs, not only of their child, but all children.

The PAC Constitution and Bylaws were reviewed during the summer and the suggested changes will be voted on at our next meeting on November 14th at 7 pm in the library. Please review below the changes:
Legislative Authority Preamble
The British Columbia School Act provides that:
…it is the goal of a democratic society to ensure that all its members receive an education that enables them to become literate, personally fulfilled and publicly useful, thereby increasing the strength and contributions to the health and stability of that society;
And to assist in facilitating the achievement of those objectives the Act recognizes Parent Advisory Councils and provides further that:
…A parents’ advisory council, through its elected officers, may advise the Board, and the principal and staff of the school or Provincial school respecting any matter relating to the school or Provincial school.
