PIZZA & PAGES BOOK CLUB

2017-18 BOOK SELECTIONS

The following books are offered as choices for the Pizza and Pages Book Club. That means that if you read the book before the meeting date and confirm this with Mrs. Humphries, you will be invited to attend a pizza lunch where we will discuss the book. No year commitment - only read the books you want to. How great is that? : )

Meetings are usually the last Thursday lunch of each month, in the library. Please let Mrs. H. know by the Wednesday (the day before) if you would like to attend, so that enough pizza is ordered.

Thurs. Oct. 26, 2017

Let's simply celebrate our favourite books! Sign up to join us this month for pizza and to get some great book recommendations for summer reading. Please bring a copy of your favourite must-read book that you want to recommend to others.

Thurs. May 26, 2016

Breathe My Name, R.A. Nelson      The Last Dog on Earth, Daniel Ehrenhaft

Eleven years ago, her biological mother smothered her three younger sisters, and if it hadn't been for the arrival of a total stranger, Frances might have been next.

Breathe My Name picks up when Frances is eighteen and a junior in high school. She lives with her loving adoptive parents in a nice home in a nice town. She is relatively happy, but things are about to change.

OR

Logan Moore hates everyone. The father who abandoned him. The stepfather who wants to control him. Kids who get in his face. Everyone. Except Jack. A mangy mutt that nobody wants. Except Logan. He doesn't care that Jack has already bitten three workers at the animal shelter or that she's ugly. She's the only one who doesn't want anything from him and that's enough for Logan. (The Last Dog on Earth)

Red Wolf, Jennifer Dance               Airborn,  Kenneth Oppel

In the late 1800s, both Native people and wolves are being forced from the land. Starving and lonely, an orphaned timber wolf is befriended by a boy named Red Wolf. Read this award winning book to witness how courage, love and fate reunite this pair, as they embark on a perilous journey home.

“In a swashbuckling adventure reminiscent of Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson, Kenneth Oppel, author of the best-selling Silverwing trilogy, creates an imagined world in which the air is populated by transcontinental voyagers, pirates, and beings never before dreamed of by the humans who sail the skies.” (GoodReads)

Thurs. Nov. 26, 2015

Rain Reign                                    The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime

by Ann M. Martin                                                             by Mark Haddon

Both of these books offer insight in to how others may think. Besides having dogs that play a pivotal role, there are some other more important similarities.  I have a feeling that after our pizza lunch you will want to read the other book so that you've read them both!

Thurs. Oct. 22, 2015

Jeff Kinney's The Long Haul                 Michael Grant's Gone

Here's our chance to discuss Diary of a Wimpy Kid #9 and predict what will happen in Kinney's final book, Old School (which will be released on November 3rd).

OR

If you're looking for a page-turning series that has proven, year after year, to be popular, read Michael Grant's thrilling series starter, Gone.

Thurs. Sept. 24, 2015
