Band

Band 7

It is a full year course. This program is for all grade 7 students interested in learning how to play a concert band instrument. Students will choose an instrument by picking their top three choices. This band plays out of Essential Elements level 1 book, progressing to level 1 sheet music. At the end of this course students will be able to read music notation and play a concert band instrument. Students taking band will perform their first concert in late October, and will also participate in winter and spring concerts. These concerts must be attended as it will be a part of the students performance mark.

Band 8

The focus of Band 8 will be to improve and enhance skills learned in grade 7 band. Students have been playing for at least one full year. The course works on developing technique and musicianship skills through Grade 1 – 2 level repertoire. Band students will perform in two public concerts each year as a part of their performance mark. Band students also have the opportunity to join extra curricular groups such as jazz band. Music related field trips will also be offered.

Band 9

The focus of Band 9 will be to improve and further skills learned in Grade 8. Students have been playing for at least 2 years. They are a hardworking group of students who are dedicated to improving their musicianship and technique through performance. Students will perform in two public concerts as a part of their performance mark. Band students also have the opportunity to join extra curricular groups such as jazz band. Music related field trips will also be offered.
